WE AUSTRALIANS

(overview)
Editorial and copywriting work for WeAustralians.org, a multidisciplinary artist-run initiative exploring race, culture and collective memory. The project involved shaping tone of voice across print, press and digital communications, helping create a more coherent written identity around a culturally sensitive and intellectually layered body of work.

The Challenge
The Challenge
The initiative was engaging with complex questions of identity, culture and collective memory across multiple public-facing formats. The challenge was to develop language that could hold intellectual and emotional nuance without becoming academic, flattening the subject matter, or losing clarity across editorial, press and marketing contexts.

Strategic Approach
Strategic Approach
My role was to help shape a written voice that could carry complexity with restraint — one that felt thoughtful, culturally aware and clear without over-explaining. The focus was on creating language that supported the initiative’s perspective and seriousness while remaining accessible across different audiences and formats.

Rather than treat each output as a standalone writing task, the work was approached as a small editorial communications system. This included a four-page feature for Artlink, press and marketing collateral, and tone-of-voice development across print and digital media — all designed to make the initiative’s public language feel more coherent and intentional.

Impact
Impact
The result was a more unified editorial and communications voice across the project’s public expression, supporting both its cultural framing and its visibility around a National Gallery of Victoria context. Within the wider portfolio, the case demonstrates an additional side of my practice: shaping how ideas live in language, not just in film or campaign form.
